SIX SHOOTER SOUND ANALYSIS

In our lecture today we viewed the award winning short film 'six shooter'. I focused on the sound design element. The first thing that became very apparent is that the audio is tied in with the perspective of the characters. For instance, when the main character is told his wife has died, all ambient noise is reduced to zero. As the man gradually leaves his thoughts and returns to reality, the ambient/background noise increases back to a 'normal' level. The same theme occurs throughout the film, with a scene waiting at a train station (with approaching train) being another good example. The use of silence was a great tool for creating tension and drama. In addition, the non-linear use of sound furthers this tension, with crescendos also clearly articulating the 'snap back to reality' theme.
